In reply to the above letter we beg to inform you that it

is not our wish that the Secretary for the Colonies should tele-

graph to the Governor of Hongkong on the matter referred to, be-

cause we have broken off negotiations with Mesgra Sandere Rehders

& Co., mainly because we are not willing to occupy any position

less than the direct Agents of the Texas Oil Company, and further

because the terms proposed to us were not satisfactory.
